Water quality and operations
Detailed regulations and planning processes ensure water quality is protected in operations.
Protection of streams and riparian zones is a key objective of sustainable forest management. Activities such as road construction, fire and harvesting can cause sedimentation and run-off, so these activities are highly regulated and best practice measures are put in place to minimise run-off. Forestry Corporation has been monitoring stream flow and water quality in State forests since the 1960s to ensure the strict environmental conditions to protect the health of waterways during forestry operations are effective.
The video below explains some of the protection measures in place.
