- <p>The first Building Bridges concert was held on 24 January 1988 at the Bondi Pavilion. The concert was organised to present a high-profile media opportunity to counter the negative mainstream media coverage of the arrival of thousands of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people into Sydney for the Long March for Justice Freedom and Hope, held in response to the bicentennial celebrations and a ‘statement of survival.’</p>

- On 24 January 1988, the Bondi Māori Community group Kotahitanga worked with Aboriginal activists and their allies to present the Building Bridges concert. The concert was held in support of the Long March for Justice Freedom and Hope, which was itself a response to the bicentennial celebrations taking place on 26 January. The March saw busloads of Aboriginal people arrive from across Australia, many of whom attended the concert.

- <p>The NSW Annual Aboriginal Rugby League Knock Out (NSWAARLKO), also known as the Koori Knockout, is a significant event for Aboriginal people. It first took place on the October long weekend in 1971 at Camdenville Oval in St Peters. Seven teams from across the state gathered to unite, celebrate and showcase Aboriginal culture and sporting talent, laying the foundation for what is acknowledged today as the largest annual gathering for Aboriginal people in Australia.</p>
