- <p>Malcolm was a trailblazer for the Indigenous community, racking up an impressive series of ‘firsts’ in both the Arts and queer activism spaces. He was described by many as a larger-than-life character who ‘shone brighter than 100 bulbs’. Malcolm was a founding student of the Black Theatre in Redfern, a teacher and counsellor at the Aboriginal Dance Theatre and one of the first co-presenters of the ABC TV Indigenous current affairs show <em>Blackout</em>.</p>

- <div><div><p>Studying at the University of Sydney from 1963 to 1966, Dr Charles Perkins AO become the first Indigenous person to graduate from an Australian university.</p><p>Dr Perkins dedicated his life to the cause of civil rights for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. His professional career was a lifelong journey devoted to drawing attention to discrimination and injustice, and improving the welfare of his people. Today, his legacy at the university lives on in the Dr Charles Perkins Memorial Oration and Prize, which was named in his honour, and in the University of Sydney’s Charles Perkins Centre.</p></div></div>
