Newnes State Forest closed as severe wet weather damages roads
Newnes State Forest, near Lithgow, will be closed from 9 April 2022 to 26 April 2022 following severe damage to roads from the ongoing wet weather.
Forestry Corporation of NSW’s Regional Manager Jason Molkentin said the forest will be closed to all forest visitors, including those travelling through Newnes State forest to the Glow Worm Tunnel or the neighbouring National Park reserve.
“Unfortunately, the area has received significant rainfall which has made the roads throughout the forest unsafe to use. We are disappointed to have to make this decision, but it is simply not safe to use the forest.
“We are working with our partners to assess the current damage and undertake necessary repairs, but these will take time and in the short term closure is the only safe option.
“Forest visitors are reminded to obey all safety signage or instructions from authorised persons. This closure is for your safety and driving or riding through these areas is especially dangerous.”
