Closures and changed conditions along forest roads between Batlow and Talbingo
Forest visitors and motorists travelling between Batlow and Talbingo are advised sections of Yellowin Access Road are closed and speed limits in other areas have been reduced to allow for road repairs.
Forestry Corporation of NSW’s Roading Operations Coordinator Lisa Davies advised visitors to Blowering Dam and motorists travelling between Batlow and Talbingo through the forest to visit the Forestry Corporation website for details about the closure and to plan their travel.
“Deteriorated road conditions mean it is not safe to drive between Batlow and Talbingo on Yellowin Access Road until essential road works have been completed,” Ms Davies said.
“Along the sections of Yellowin Access Road that are open, the current road surface conditions are best suited to four wheel drive vehicles in dry weather only and speed has been limited to a maximum of 40km/hr. Please drive to conditions.
“To ensure a safe visit, please plan ahead, stick to the main forest roads, follow signs in the forest and stay out of closed areas.”
Yellowin Access Road is currently closed at four locations:
- End of the seal on Yellowin Access Rd up to Snubba Rd
- Intersection of Snubba Rd and Yellowin Access Rds
- intersection of Yellowin Access Rd and Blowering Camp Road.
For members of the public wanting to access Snubba Road from Batlow, alternate roads are Bullongra Road or Bago Forest Way.
Camping areas on the western and southern areas of Blowering Dam will only be accessible via Snowy Mountains Hwy and onto Yellowin Access Rd or Foreshore Rd over Jounama Dam wall near Talbingo.
Ms Davies also reminded visitors that restrictions remain in place in many areas of pine plantation that have not yet been made safe.
“We have done a huge amount of work to restore safe access to the Blowering Dam foreshore following the 2019-20 fires, but there are still areas on the western side of Blowering Dam that are unsafe and will remain closed to the public for the foreseeable future. This includes McDonalds’ Trail, Sturgess’s Trail and Foreshore Road between the Flats and Browns Bay.
“Even if you do have a four wheel drive, many fire trails on the southern end of Blowering Dam also remain impassable to vehicles, so please stick to the main roads.”
