Forestry Corporation is replacing a timber bridge on Green Cape Lighthouse Road on the NSW South Coast with a new concrete structure.
The works are being carried out under the Forest Infrastructure Recovery Program (FIRP) delivering a safer and more durable crossing for local communities and visitors.
The project will replace an ageing log bridge with a concrete bridge designed to provide reliable access for decades to come on one of the region's important access routes.
Green Cape Lighthouse Road is used extensively by local residents, visitors and people travelling to nearby state forests, national parks and coastal attractions.
To allow the bridge replacement to be completed, Green Cape Lighthouse Road will be closed to all traffic from Wednesday 4th November, 2026 and will remain closed for up to 6 weeks, with planned reopening by Sunday 20th December.
A sign posted detour will remain in place via Duckhole Road as the bridge replacement occurs.
Forestry Corporation Area Manager Jarod Addinsall said the project was an important investment in long-term infrastructure for the region.
"This bridge is an important link for people accessing our state forest, national park, recreation areas and neighbouring properties," Mr Addinsall said.
"While the temporary closure may inconvenience some road users, the upgrade will deliver a long-term benefit and reduce future maintenance requirements."
The project has been funded by the NSW Government under the $60 million Forest Infrastructure Repair Program (FIRP) to repair and restore State forest infrastructure following widespread flood damage.
Over the past three years, FIRP has replaced 41 major bridges, repaired 24 major landslips, restored 2,650km of roads, repaired 110 crossings and completed 14 quarry expansions.
"This significant investment is improving the resilience and reliability of the State forest road network and maintaining access for forestry operations, emergency response and the community," Mr Addinsall said.
