Forestry Corporation is urging the community to help protect Tumut State Forest after illegal industrial dumping in the reserve.

Tumut State Forest is a popular and easily accessible area used daily by visitors for bushwalking, mountain biking, trail bike riding and enjoying nature.

However, Forestry Corporation staff have recently discovered large quantities of industrial cable conduit dumped in the forest after copper wire had been stripped out.

Forestry Corporation staff collected the waste, loaded it onto a trailer and transported it to the local landfill for safe disposal.

The incident has been formally reported through RID Online, the NSW Government’s illegal dumping reporting system.

“Most people do the right thing and enjoy Tumut State Forest respectfully, but illegal dumping like this spoils the environment for everyone,” Mr Freeman said.

“This was a significant amount of industrial waste and it appears to have come from a commercial source. We actively monitor our forests and anyone caught dumping will face serious penalties.”

“We’re asking the community to keep an eye out and report anything suspicious. If you see unusual activity, vehicle movements at odd hours, or evidence of dumping, please report it. We thank the community for their vigilance and support.”
