Forestry Corporation is undertaking a hazard reduction burn in Broken Bago State Forest, near Wauchope, this week.

The burn will be carried out near Broken Bago Paddock Road, including the vicinity of The Paddock Road, Old Highway Road, Nine Tree Road and surrounding forest trails.

The operation is designed to reduce forest fuel loads to help protect nearby communities, neighbouring properties and public infrastructure from future fires.

Hazard reduction burns are an essential part of Forestry Corporation's fire management program helping to reduce the intensity and spread of wildfires while supporting the long-term health and resilience of native forest landscapes.

Forestry Corporation staff will be on site throughout the operation, with additional signage and traffic management measures in place.

The fireground and surrounding operational areas will be closed to the public during the burn.

Smoke may be visible in surrounding areas in coming days, and the timing and intensity of the burn will be carefully managed to minimise impacts on the surrounding community.

People with asthma or other respiratory conditions are advised to stay indoors and close windows and doors.

Motorists are also reminded to drive to conditions in smoke affected areas.
