The Wingello community will today celebrate the opening of a new State Forest recreation area.

A ceremony will be staged in the Southern Highlands village where the new Wingello Recreational Adventure Park will be official opened.

The project, funded by the NSW Government, in Wingello State Forest is a major milestone in the community’s recovery from the 2019-2020 Black Summer Bushfires, which severely impacted mountain bike infrastructure.

The park upgrade works have been completed under a partnership between Forestry Corporation,  Wingecarribee Shire Council and local businesses.

Forestry Corporation Silviculture Supervisor Ellen Khan said the village’s new recreational area will be a highly valued community asset.

“The Wingello Forest Recreational Adventure Park is now open and ready for the community to use again for a range of outdoor experiences,” Ms Khan said.

“Wingello State Forest hosts popular forest user group activities including endurance horse riding, dog sledding, bushwalking, mountain bike riding through to scouting events.

“Under the works funded by the NSW Government, a new children’s playground has been installed for the community, there are upgraded camping areas and signage, and a looped walking and bike track has also been created along with a pedestrian bridge,” she said.

Vehicle access to the recreational area has also been greatly improved.

A water crossing has been repaired while earthworks have created larger parking facilities.

Forestry Corporation’s Moss Vale team worked with council and local companies including Nicholas Bray Landscapes, Divalls Earthmoving and Spruced Nursery to complete the project.
