Karangi Public School has been able to refurbish the school’s greenhouse and teach students important project management skills, thanks to a timber donation from Forestry Corporation of NSW and Pentarch Forestry.

Year 5-6 students at Karangi Public School drove the project and organised for timber slats to be delivered to the school so the work could commence, said Forestry Corporation Partnerships Leader, Ryan Ellis.

“Congratulations to the school and students for their work in organising the refurbishment, learning valuable skills along the way,” Mr Ellis said.

“Students also conducted fundraising to ensure any additional materials, such as roof sheeting, could be purchased to complete the project.

“As a result, the Karangi Public School greenhouse looks fantastic and will serve the school and community well for many years to come.

“A massive thank you Karangi Public School Year 5-6 students, teacher Murray Archibald and General Assistant Paul Malone for their work in bringing the project to life, as well as local Forestry Corporation staffer Jason Bee.”

The Community Timber Partnerships program saw donated timber used to improve community facilities across the state.

“This program was formed to salvage around 1,000 cubic metres of flooring and decking products impacted by the Murwillumbah floods in 2017,” Mr Ellis said.

“When we heard about such a large volume of timber being written off, in some cases for damage as minor as water staining, we were determined to salvage it for local community projects.

“We’re working with a range of community groups to give the timber a new lease of life and create renewable, durable, beautiful timber facilities for many more local communities to enjoy.”

The Community Timber Partnerships Project is endorsed by Planet Ark, under their Make it Wood program.
