Hazard reduction burning in Cowarra State forest
Forestry Corporation of NSW is working with the Bunyah Local Aboriginal Land Council and the Rural Fire Service to carry out hazard reduction burns in Cowarra State Forest over the coming weeks.
Mick Wilson, Protection Forester for Mid North Coast said the hazard reduction burning program is important to reduce the fuel load and help protect the surrounding communities of King Creek, Lake Innes and the Greater Port Macquarie and Wauchope area.
“These burns are an essential part of our bushfire management program to maintain forest health and protect nearby communities,” Mr Wilson said.
“Hazard reduction burns will be carefully monitored to ensure they stay within cleared containment lines.
“We ask everyone to stay away from any burning or recently burnt areas, as these are unsafe and motorists should also take care when driving in smoky conditions.”
The hazard reduction burns will be visible on the “Fires Near Me” app as a planned event.
