The Olney State Forest mountain biking facility is marked as an exclusion zone on all maps that licenced and registered hunters are required to carry, along with their GPS devices and written permission to hunt. This means hunters are not permitted to hunt the area around the mountain biking facility.
In response to community concerns, Forestry Corporation has now increased the area where hunting is prohibited around the mountain biking facility by an additional 20 hectares.
Forestry Corporation has a long and positive relationship with the mountain bike club and has worked closely with members to develop a world-class mountain biking network for the local community.
Olney State Forest is a multiple use forest — managed for a range of purposes and users. Hunting has been carefully managed in other parts of this forest since 2013 in line with a comprehensive risk assessment that is reviewed and updated annually.
No community concerns have been directly raised with Forestry Corporation about hunting in this time, but we will be in touch with the club to discuss the robust measures that are in place to protect their safety in the forest.
