Changed public access around Blowering Dam
Visitors to the picnic and camping areas on Blowering Dam’s western foreshore and motorists travelling through Bago State Forest are being asked to plan ahead as some forest roads will be closed throughout the summer.
Forestry Corporation of NSW’s Harvesting and Roading Manager, Louise Bourke, said there will be temporary closures of some forest roads due to harvesting and haulage operations in local pine plantations during the summer months.
“There will be a large number of heavy vehicles hauling logs from pine plantations in Bago State Forest throughout the coming months,” Ms Bourke said.
“Several forest roads will be closed and we are implementing detours so that we can keep members of the public and our operations safe while we complete this work.
“We recognise many people use the popular foreshore facilities during the warmer months; the surrounding road network can’t be used by heavy vehicles under wet weather conditions, so summer is largely our only opportunity to harvest this timber and supply it to our customers.
“We’re endeavouring to balance recreational opportunities with the need to sustainably supply our local timber industry.
“Our thanks to locals and visitors for their patience and understanding during this period.”
Closures are listed on Forestry Corporation’s website. From Monday 2 December 2019:
- Yellowin Access Road will be closed from Blowering Camp Road to Snubba Road
- Blowering Camp Road will be closed from Yellowin Access Road to Foreshore Road intersection.
Public access to the western foreshore will be via a two-way traffic detour on Sturgess and McDonalds Trail from Snubba Road.
Traffic to and from Talbingo will be directed back to Yellowin Access Road from Blowering Camp Road along a section of Foreshore Road.
Ms Bourke is reminding visitors to pay attention to all signage in the forest.
“The State forests surrounding Tumut, Batlow and Tumbarumba provide free public camping areas, picnic facilities and walking, driving and riding trails,” Ms Bourke said.
“Help us keep you safe when visiting State Forests by following all speed limits and warning signs”
Penalties apply for not complying with closure notices.
