Northern and Central West NSW firewood permits to close early from bushfire risk
Unseasonably warm and dry conditions have prompted Forestry Corporation of NSW to end the firewood collection permit season early in parts of the state.
From 1 September, no further firewood permits will be issued in 2018 for NSW State forests around Dubbo, Narrabri, Gunnedah, Coonabarabran, Gilgandra, Forbes, Parkes, Narrandera, Mudgee, Kandos, Rylstone and Gulgong.
Firewood collection during the emerging conditions represents a significant bushfire risk, said Southern Cypress District Manager, Stephen Campbell.
"With the arrival of hotter weather, the threat of fires starting from people out in forest areas and using chainsaws to cut firewood is real,” Mr Campbell said.
"For safety reasons, we won’t issue any permits to collect firewood in both our Northern and Southern Districts from 1 September.
“Firewood permits will be available again through our website around April 2019 as we move into the winter again.”
