Koala tree giveaway launches on National Eucalypt Day
Forestry Corporation is proud to partner with Koala Conservation Australia in launching the annual koala tree giveaway.
Now in its seventh year, the annual giveaway launches on National Eucalypt Day - Sunday, March 23.
This year the tree giveaway will continue until the end of June and for the first time trees can be collected from Guulabaa – Place of Koala in Cowarra State Forest.
The joint initiative between KCA and Forestry Corporation has seen more than 215,000 koala feed trees provided to local landholders to establish koala and native wildlife habitat.
KCA Conservation Manager Scott Castle said 25,000 seedlings will be available to the community consisting of four different species tallowwood, grey gum, forest red gum and swamp mahogany to suit a variety of soil and habitat types.
“This year’s Koala Tree Giveaway aims to go some way to regenerating and connecting existing habitats," Mr Castle said.
"We invite private and public land holders, schools and anyone in the community with some open space for tree planting, to order trees online from this Sunday, March 23 from our website.
To mark the launch a host of activities are planned at Guulabaa - Place of Koala on National Eucalypt Day - Sunday, March 23.
"Forestry Corporation staff will be available onsite at Guulabaa - Place of Koala this Sunday during National Eucalypt Day events to talk about Cowarra State Forest, forest science and how seedlings are raised at the Grafton Nursery for koala feed donations and for sustainable timber resources," Forestry Corporation's Senior Manager Country and Community Kathy Lyons said.
"Cowarra State Forest is home to an array of eucalypts including grey gum, Sydney blue gum, tallowwood, blackbutt, turpentine, grey ironbark, red mahogany, flooded gum, red bloodwood and forest red gum," she said.
Ordered trees will be made available from late April at Guulabaa – Place of Koala – Cowarra State Forest, Guulabaa Way Lake Innes, entry off Burrawan Forest Drive, Monday to Saturday, between 10am and 2pm.
