Although it is predominantly higher elevation native forest, Micalong State Forest adjoins the large Buccleuch Radiata Pine Plantations to the north. It contains diverse vegetation from montane swamps through to higher elevation eucalypt forest.

Most of Tumut State Forest beside the Tumut township was once a pine plantation although it is now dominated by native species. It is a popular recreational area for Tumut locals and visitors alike.
