Supporting our industry and community
Each year we participate in a range of industry and community events.
The Eden Whale Festival is an annual celebration of the Eden township and its rich history through a street parade, artisan markets, street theatre, education displays and entertainment. The festival is celebrated during the last weekend of October to pay homage to Eden’s history of whale watching, timber production and its beautiful coastal forests. Forestry Corporation is proud to have sponsored the ‘Artist Who Wood’ competition since 2012, where local artists submit sculptures crafted from wood. Each year we are amazed to see the beauty of timber sculptures that are constant reminders of the diverse use of this resource.
The Coates Hire World Rally is a three day event held every year at Coffs Harbour, bringing together international racing fans, tourists and the mid north coast community to enjoy the fast-paced spectacle. The Rally route includes local State forests and Forestry Corporation works together with Rally Australia to make forest roads available for this event. The rally is an example of the many uses of State forests – healthy forest ecosystems, timber production and recreation and tourism all co-exist in NSW State forests.
Forestry Corporation has sponsored the Kendall Violin Competition since its inception in 1999. The Competition creates opportunities for the artistic development of young Australian violinists. The Competition began when Australian luthier, Graham Caldersmith, offered to donate a concert violin each year as a prize to the winner of a competition. Kendall is located on the mid-north coast of NSW and the town has a proud history of timber milling and is renowned for its scenic forest and nature reserves.
Forestry Corporation is proud that our association with the Kendall National Violin Competition has encouraged and rewarded many young violinists and at the same time showcased the multiple values of high-grade timber, fine instruments and blossoming young musical talent.
The NSW Axemen’s Association are a body of wood chopping sport enthusiasts. Australian axemen have an international reputation for being among the best in the world at cutting hardwood timber blocks. Forestry Corporation regularly provides timber blocks for wood chopping from the sustainably managed forests around the state. The sponsorship agreement in place helps facilitate access to timber blocks for wood chopping events at regional shows and the Royal Easter Show in Sydney.
The Country Education Foundation (CEF) is a not-for-profit organisation assisting disadvantaged rural and regional school leavers to transform their lives through education and training. Since 1993, the CEF family of local foundations has given almost 4000 grants to disadvantaged young people across Australia buying toolkits for apprentices, laptops and textbooks for TAFE students, and helped remote students travel to capital cities to study at university. As part of our centenary celebrations Forestry Corporation gave a donation to CEF to assist in furthering rural education and demonstrating how forestry has played a significant role in training NSW young people for the past 100 years.
