Take a walk on the wild side with a State forest animal spotlight tour
Cumberland State Forest will open its gates after dark on Saturdays in November for its popular Animal Spotlight wildlife walks.
Forestry Corporation of NSW’s Senior Ranger Tim Liston said Animal Spotlight walks are a popular family activity that books out quickly.
“Animal Spotlight walks offer families a rare opportunity to experience the forest and the wildlife that calls it home after dark,” Mr Liston said.
“The evening starts with a ranger talk about nocturnal wildlife and then we lead families on a night-time adventure through the forest by torchlight to seek out possums, owls and other critters.
“Kids love the chance to take their own flashlight and turn wildlife detective for the evening.
“In the past, families have spotted powerful owls, which is a threatened species, sugar gliders, micro bats, ring tail and brush tail possums, tawny frogmouths and Boobook owls.”
