Mike Beardsell welcomed as new GM of Softwood Plantations

Forestry Corporation of NSW announced the appointment of Mike Beardsell as the new General Manager of its Softwoods Plantation Division last Thursday.

As the largest softwood plantation manager in Australia, Forestry Corporation produces enough timber to construct a quarter of all houses built around the country each year.

Heading up the Softwoods Plantation Division, Mr Beardsell will be responsible for timber production from over 200,000 hectares of pine plantations in New South Wales.

In announcing the appointment, Forestry Corporation’s CEO, Nick Roberts, said he was delighted to introduce Mr Beardsell to the business.

“Mike has held senior roles across a diverse range of natural resources industries for more than 20 years. His strong leadership and breadth of experience makes Mike a natural choice for the role,” he said.

Mr Roberts also thanked outgoing General Manager of the Softwoods Plantation Division, Ian Brown.

“I’d like to acknowledge Ian’s excellent work and the contribution he has made to Forestry Corporation over the past eight years,” he said.

Mr Beardsell’s career has taken him across Australia and around the globe. Having obtained forestry qualifications in Scotland and the US, Mr Beardsell started his career in Canberra in 1986 working with the CSIRO Forests Division.

Since that time, Mr Beardsell has managed operations at North Pine Products in Tasmania and Peak Hill Resources in Western Australia, joined the Iron Ore Company of Canada as Treasurer, and North Forest Products as CEO.

In his most recent role as Executive General Manager of Boral’s Cement Division, Mr Beardsell led operations across Australia and in South East Asia. Following the partial sale of this business, Mr Beardsell has been consulting with Partners in Performance and working in various non-executive roles.

Mr Roberts said, “It is terrific to welcome Mike back to the Australian forest and timber industry. I have no doubt his international experience will be an asset to Forestry Corporation.”
