Fire control works in forests near Bellingen
There is currently a bushfire emergency in NSW that is being managed by the Rural Fire Service, with the support of other firefighting authorities including Forestry Corporation.
As part of the coordinated firefighting effort, work is currently taking place in many forests on the north coast to prepare containment lines and carry out other emergency works to prevent the further spread of fire. These emergency fire works are not related to Forestry Corporation’s timber harvesting operations.
Forestry Corporation understands community members in Bellingen have a long-running interest in planned harvesting operations in Scotchman and Roses Creek State Forests and has reassured the community that no timber harvesting will take place in those forests at this time.
A separate operation in Gladstone State Forest, near Sunny Corner Road, has been ongoing for some time and is not related to works in Scotchman and Roses Creek State Forests. This operation remains active and crews continue to carry out their work when it is safe to do so, based on an ongoing assessment of the fire risk and weather conditions.
